IAEMA - Forging the future

IAEMA (www.iaema.org) is an important new association for GSE and airport equipment manufacturers that was founded in 2010. A number of major airport equipment manufacturers decided it was time to organise the global airport equipment manufacturers and to enhance the group's influence when deciding on key industry decisions and accordingly the International Airport Equipment Manufacturers' Association (IAEMA) was formed.

The rationale behind IAEMA is very simple: it has been designed to help manufacturers take more control over the destiny of their companies and their products. In a nutshell, the IAEMA is looking to facilitate on various levels. It will embrace all cost-cutting opportunities for its members; help with the ongoing issue of universal standards; and promote collective bargaining for its members where appropriate. In addition to this, the IAEMA successfully launched a new kind of gse exhibition in October 2010, one that is delivered by the industry, for the industry.

The profile of the traditional gse event is well known: it promises much and exhibitors pay a premium to attend but often it fails to deliver and results in a poor return on investment for the participants. With a collective membership steering it, the IAEMA exhibition format will break this old-fashioned mould. Its first exhibition, the International Airport Expo Las Vegas 2010,  was held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel in Las Vegas, over October 26-28, 2010. This inaugural event attracted around 80 exhibitors and just under 1,000 international buyers visited the event during the 3 show days. This event was run as a non-profit making venture as will any future events. In consequence, exhibitors will benefit greatly, as much as the visitors attending.

The next event will be held in 2012 from 25 to 27 September and once again the great facilities that the Rio in Las Vegas offers have been chosen again for this important event. It is anticipated that over 100 exhibitors will be in attendance at the 2012 event and visitor numbers are expected to increased by around 20% based on the research conducted by IAEMA.

Giving back to the industry - with the same cost per square foot as in 2010 and a reduce room rate, IAEMA's aim is to make the September 2012 event the most effective and cost efficient airport equipment show ever staged in the US.

A new era calls for a new outlook on the industry: will you be a part of it?
